Sharing Our Story: Small Business Seminar at UNT

Inspiring the Next Generation: Entrepreneurship in the Food Industry
Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to speak at the University of North Texas (UNT) as part of their Small Business Seminar series. The topic? “From Himalayan Mountains to Denton Streets: Building a Food Truck Empire.”

Connecting with Future Entrepreneurs
The seminar was organized by UNT’s Entrepreneurship Center and attracted over 50 students from various disciplines - business, hospitality, and cultural studies. It was inspiring to see so many young minds interested in entrepreneurship and cultural cuisine.
What We Covered:
- Cultural Entrepreneurship: How traditional Nepalese cuisine can thrive in the American market
- Food Truck Business Model: The unique challenges and opportunities of mobile food service
- Community Building: The importance of local engagement and cultural education
- Work-Life Balance: Maintaining authenticity while scaling a small business
Real Stories, Real Advice
I shared our authentic journey - from learning traditional recipes in Nepali kitchens to adapting them for Texas palates. The students were particularly interested in:
- How we source authentic ingredients in North Texas
- Building a brand around cultural authenticity
- Navigating health department regulations
- Marketing strategies for niche cuisine
Q&A Session Highlights
The most engaging part was the Q&A session where students asked about:
- Starting a food business with limited capital
- Balancing tradition with innovation
- Dealing with cultural food stereotypes
- Building customer loyalty in a competitive market
